How do Undergraduates apply to work at HOGL? |
HOGL embraces its role in the academic community by
providing undergraduate students with work experience and professional
mentorship. Most projects with student participation revolve around genotyping
for the purpose of studying population genetics (whether it is human origins,
conservation of endangered species, or testing subjects for medical studies). Students
do not need to have experience to apply and students that already have
experience in a lab setting will be placed on an appropriate project. However,
the most important qualifications is a student's willingness to commit to the
project and their enthusiasm for learning. Our lab requires students to
volunteer prior to being offered paid employment. The time frame is dependent
on level of commitment, and is usually around 3 months. However, there are
possibilities for gaining school credit during this period while working in the
lab. Working for credit will require the completion of an independent project
by the end of the semester.
