Former HOGL Students and Employees that have moved on to new things:
Jen Frame, Research Specialist Spring 2005 - May 2008
Soon after leaving HOGL, I traveled to Irvine, CA to obtain a position as a Molecular Biologist in the Keirstead Neurobiology Laboratory. The main focus of the Keirstead lab is to find new treatments for spinal cord injury and like diseases through the collaborative research at the University of California, Irvine and around the world. My main project focuses on the glial scar formation after a spinal cord injury, which creates a barrier for regeneration of nerves and provides a hostile environment for oligodendrocytes.
Gabrielle Lehmicke, Research Technician November 2006 - May 2008
Being that I love the outdoors, I left my job at HOGL to check out a new, different environment in the city of Portland, Oregon. A future job is still to be determined, and if I could I would transport my whole HOGL family here because it was such a great working experience. Long live DNA research!
Libby Serbi, Research Technician June 2006 - June 2008
Now I work in the GATC managing the Sequenom MassArray System. It is a mass spectrometer that can detect SNPs for genotyping purposes and methylation ratios of DNA fragments which is instrumental in current cancer research.
Nick Veomett, Undergraduate Researcher August 2007 - May 2008
Currently I'm "Participating in the UBRP program in Dr. Stratton's Lab in the Arizona Cancer Center. My research involves studying pharmacokinetics of novel cancer drugs and developing a topical skin cancer treatment.
Laurel Yanof, Research Technician August 2004 - August 2006
Laurel graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in Psychology and chemistry minor in 2006 and is currently a student at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She looks forward to graduating in 2010, becoming a practicing eye doctor, and eventually plans on breeding and training horses in her spare time.
Michael Brown, Research Technician Summer 2004 - Summer2005 (Undergraduate lab technician) Winter 2007 - Spring 2008
I'm currently working as a design engineer for a medical equipment manufacturing company in Tucson called Sebra. Using radio frequency technology, the company shapes, seals and cuts medical polymers for hospital use and patient well being. As a design engineer, I'm responsible for taking an idea from the customer and designing a mold that would best shape specific dimensions for achieving a desired function. It's basically playing around with electronics and machining metal parts to create cool manufacturing devices.
Kelly Christopherson, Research Specialist 2003-2006
I am currently a lecturer and intern at Tongji Medical College, in Wuhan, China. Upon my return to the U.S., I will be continuing my medical education in genetics and pediatric oncology. |
